Trois courts-métrages du duo culte en ciné-concert.
Stan Laurel (1890-1965) et Oliver Hardy (1892- 1957) forment un duo comique connu et reconnu à travers le monde depuis leur constitution en 1927. Laurel & Hardy tournent près de 100 films en 25 ans de carrière. Ils font figure aujourd’hui encore d’icônes du cinéma du début du 20ème siècle et portent à son apogée l’art du cinéma comique hérité directement de la pantomime. Avec ce nouveau projet de ciné-concert, l’Orchestre national d’Île-de-France donne à voir trois courts-métrages des débuts du tandem : « La bataille du siècle » de Clyde Bruckman est l’un des premiers puisqu’il fut réalisé en 1927. Il donne lieu notamment à une scène d’anthologie d’entartrage géant, symbole hilarant du comique burlesque de Laurel & Hardy. Les deux autres films, « Vive la liberté » et « Œil pour œil » ont été réalisés par Leo McCarey en 1929. Quiproquos, courses poursuites, chutes, bagarres sont les ingrédients intemporels du tandem pour faire rire petits et grands. L’Orchestre national d’Île-de-France a fait du ciné-concert l’une de ses spécialités. Pour cette nouvelle production, la création musicale est confiée à Cyrille Aufort, l’un des plus brillants compositeur français de musique de films de sa génération.
